Sometimes meaningful change starts with something very practical: putting a useful resource where it can make a difference.

Creating Access Through Technology

In 2022, MongoDB and Cyntegrity worked together to provide 20 MacBook Air laptops to Metropolitan School Frankfurt. The laptops strengthened the school’s secondary-school IT resources and supported its students, including Ukrainian students who had arrived in Germany after being displaced by the war.

But access to technology was only part of the opportunity

The collaboration later extended into the classroom, where Cyntegrity CEO Artem Andrianov and data scientist Ting-Yu Ho joined Grade 10 students for an interactive introduction to data science.

Together they explored how data can be interpreted, how technology helps us discover patterns, and how data science is increasingly influencing the way we understand problems and make decisions.

The value of a contribution can grow when people build on it

For the students, it was an opportunity to encounter data science through people who work with data every day. For us, it illustrated something central to the
Butterfly Challenge.

Knowledge can turn access into understanding

A laptop can provide access. Knowledge can turn access into understanding. And understanding can create possibilities that were not there before.

That is the idea behind the Butterfly Challenge.

It is not defined by one type of contribution or one cause. It is an invitation to consider what we can contribute resources, expertise, time, connections or ideas and how that contribution might enable somebody else to take the next step. Small actions do not have to remain small when others are able to build on them.
